چکیده

The Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station data (CHIRPS), which incorporates satellite imagery and in situ station information, is a new high-resolution long-term precipitation dataset available since 1981. This study aims to understand the performance of latest version CHIRPS depicting multiple timescale variation over Taiwan. analysis focused on examining whether better than another product—the Integrated Multi-satellitE Retrievals for Global Mission (GPM) final run (hereafter IMERG)—which known effectively capture We carried out evaluations made annual cycle, seasonal interannual variation, daily during 2001–2019. Our results show that IMERG slightly considering most features examined; however, performs representing (1) magnitude cycle monthly climatology, (2) spatial distribution mean all four seasons, (3) quantitative estimation area-averaged winter Taiwan, (4) occurrence frequency non-rainy grids winter. Notably, despite fact not many examined features, can depict temporal Taiwan annual, seasonal, timescales 95% significance. highlights potential use studying years 1981–2000, there are no database.

Validation of ERA-Interim Precipitation Estimates over the Baltic Sea

European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) ERA-Interim reanalysis total precipitation estimates are validated against ten years of in situ precipitation measurements onboard of ships over the Baltic Sea. A statistical analysis for binary forecasts and mean rain rates derived from all data show a good agreement with observations. However, a closer look reveals an underestimation ...

Face Recognition: Canonical Mechanisms at Multiple Timescales

Adaptation is ubiquitous in the nervous system, and many possible computational roles have been discussed. A new functional imaging study suggests that, in face recognition, the learning of 'norm faces' and adaptation resulting in perceptual after-effects depend on the same mechanism.

Expectations developed over multiple timescales facilitate visual search performance.

Our perception of the world is strongly influenced by our expectations, and a question of key importance is how the visual system develops and updates its expectations through interaction with the environment. We used a visual search task to investigate how expectations of different timescales (from the last few trials to hours to long-term statistics of natural scenes) interact to alter percep...

Generating Multi-Sensor Precipitation Estimates Over Radar Gap Areas

Generating a multi-sensor precipitation product over radar gap area is the objective of the present study. A merging approach is developed to improve Satellite-based Precipitation Estimates (SPE) by merging with ground-based Radar Rainfall (RR) estimates because remote satellites are the only source that can collect information from areas where are inaccessible by ground-based radar and/or rain...
